About TISS

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is a premier institute of Social Work in India. It was established in 1936 and was recognized as a Deemed University by the University Grant Commission (UGC) of India in the year 1964 and as a result, diversified its activities.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a scheme on skills development based higher education as part of college/university education, leading to Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.), Degree with multiple exits such as Diploma/Advanced Diploma under the NSQF.  Ministry of HRD, Government of India had issued an Executive Order in September 2011 for National Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF). Subsequently, Ministry of Finance, in pursuance of the decision of Cabinet Committee on Skill Development in its meeting held on 19th December, 2013, has issued a notification for National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) which supersedes NVEQF. The B.Voc. Programme is focused on universities and colleges providing undergraduate studies which would also incorporate specific job roles and their NOSs along with broad based general education. This would enable the graduates completing B.Voc. to make a meaningful participation in accelerating India’s economy by gaining appropriate employment, becoming entrepreneurs and creating appropriate knowledge.

Examination and Assessment The assessment for the general education component will be done by the TISS as per the prevailing standards and procedures. The assessment for the skill development components will necessarily focus on practical demonstrations of the skills acquired. TISS will consult the respective Sector Skill Council or COE for designing the examination and assessment pattern for the skill development components. TISS may also consider using the designated assessors of Sector Skill Councils/industry associations for the conduct of practical assessment or draw from the panel of examiners appointed by TISS-SVE. TISS will establish a credit based assessment and evaluation system for the B.Voc. Programme.
